Channel patterns
From GeoClasses
Channel patterns depend on a number of factors;
- Sediment load
- A stream carrying a high sediment load will easily deposit it at any point in the stream where flow lessens. This will more likely result in braided streams.
- Stream slope
- Streams flowing along low slopes are more likely to be meandering streams.
- Human intervention
- The dynamics of stream flow tends to be biased against straight channels. Most straight channels are human engineered, and unless the stream bed is made of concrete, the stream tries to develop bends.
