Extra Credit: Weather log analysis
From GeoClasses
The object of this assignment is to learn about the properties of the atmospheric air masses and fronts that affect your city (Memphis) based on an analysis of your weather log.
[edit]
Express the weather log graphically
- Construct a diagram showing the temperature, precipitation, humidity and clouds that occured on each day you recorded the weather. This diagram may be in the form of a graph, or any other graphical representation. It would probably be a good idea to show your diagram to someone who is not taking this class to determine if the diagram shows what you want it to.
- On your diagram, mark the different atmospheric air masses that affected your city on each day (eg. continental polar air mass).
- Also, on your diagram, mark the times when a front passed through your city (Memphis). Be sure to indicate if it was a warm or cold front.
[edit]
Specific questions
Based on your diagram and analysis of your weather log, write a brief summary paper explaining the weather patterns for the duration of your weatherlog, including:
- the properties of the different atmospheric air masses responsible for your observations, and
- the differences in cloud cover and other weather factors (such as temperature, humidity, and precipitation) between cold and warm fronts.
Please turn in your graph and text on paper by exam day.
