From GeoClasses
These are the topics you can choose for movies. You may choose either 1 or 2 but not both; 4 or 5 but not both; 6 or 7 but not both. 3 is a stand alone question.
- Mid-latitude cyclones: Explain to someone who knows nothing about weather what mid-latitude cyclones are, how they form, what weather patterns they produce, and how they influence climate type we have in Memphis (what climate type do we have?).
- Warm and cold fronts: Explain to someone who knows nothing about weather what the difference between warm and cold fronts are, including how they form, what air masses are involved (what is an air mass?), how wind direction changes as the fronts pass, and what clouds they produce.
- Atmospheric stability and clouds: Explain to someone who knows nothing about weather how clouds form, why different clouds have different shapes (what are they called?), and how the stability of the air mass determines cloud formation.
- Climate I: Explain to someone who knows nothing about climate how insolation, latitude, and Hadley cells determine the tropical and polar climate types (what are these climate types?).
- Climate II: Explain to someone who knows nothing about climate how specific heat, land and sea breezes, maritime air masses, and orographic lifting determine the various coastal climates around the world (what are these climate types?).
- El Nino: Explain to someone who knows nothing about weather and climate how El Nino forms, how it is related to ocean circulation, and how it influences weather patterns around the world.
- Hurricanes: Explain to someone who knows nothing about weather and climate how hurricanes form, what is needed for a storm to be classified as a hurricane, where hurricanes are most likely to occur and what factors (there are 2 major ones) that influence hurricane formation.
