  • I.A. Each experiment run will be slightly different. Here is an example result:

Original height (cm) = 5 Original volume of air (cm^2) = 62.8 (assuming the radius is 2 cm) Final height (cm) = 4 Final volume of air (cm^2) = 50.2

  • I.B. The jar labeled 1 is pure dye. As the jar # increases the dye becomes more diffuse. The color in the jars disappears by jar # ___.
  • III.B. The light makes a circle at the equator all times of the year. At the North Pole the light makes an oval shape that is more elongate during the winter solstice and less elongate during the summer solstice. At the South Pole the light makes an oval that is more elongate at the summer solstice and less elongate at the winter solstice.
  • IV.A. Sprite is an acid; baking soda is a base; (flat Sprite should be close to neutral).

When you combine the Sprite and baking soda it bubbles and the gas you produce is CO2 (because baking soda is carbonate).

  • IV.B. The ice cubes were virtual but they would have shown no gas bubbles if they were made with hot water and lots of gas bubbles if they were made with cold water.
