Quizzes 1 and 2 will be repeated on the exam. Note: The numbers used in the quiz 1 problem will be different but the question will be worded the same.


There are 6 multi-part questions on the exam. (That includes the quiz questions.) Additional topics that are covered will be:

  • Residence time
    • What is it?
    • How does residence time control movement of pollution through different reservoirs.
  • Resources:
    • What is a renewable resource?
    • What is a nonrenewable resource?
    • What is sustainable development?
    • Be able to give examples of each of the above.
  • Plate tectonics:
    • Very similar questions to quiz 2 about continent-ocean collision and mid-ocean ridge divergence
    • Be able to draw similar cross-sections for each.
  • Rock cycle:
    • How is a sedimentary rock vs. igneous rock vs. metamorphic rock formed?
    • What are the rock names we covered in class and where are they formed? (By what process?)
    • How do these rocks change during metamorphism?
  • What is seismology and what does it tell us?
  • What is paleomagnetism and what does it tell us?
