Summary of papers on erosion models
- Poesen J., Nachtergaele, Verstraeten, Valentin C., 2002. Gully erosion and environmental change: importance and research needs. Catena 50, 91-133. This paper provides threshold for gully development such as hydraulic thresholds, rainfall thresholds and topographic thresholds. This paper also provides basis for starting and ending ephemeral gully.
- Harvey D., Watson C., Schumm A., 1985. Gully erosion. Bureau of Land Management. January 1985. This paper not only describes the character of gully form but also different stages in the evolution of gully. Authors presented several graphs showing relationship between
- slope of steepeest reach and drainage area at different relative shear stress indicator.
- valley floor slope to width ratio versus drainage basin area, illustrating geomorphic threshold zone.
- Bull L., Kirkby M., 1997. Gully processes and modelling. Progress in Physical Geography 21, 354-374. This paper gives a good overview of different approaches adopted by for modelling the development of gully. Some researchers used hypothetical source area for modelling. Some are mathematical models, seepage-erosion model, erosion susceptibility model.
- Woodward D., 1999. Method to predict cropland ephemeral gully erosion. Catena 37, 393-399. In this paper a model is prepared which has two parts hydrology and erosion model. Regression equations are usedd to estimate initial gully width and ultimate gully width. The erosion from concentrated flow is driven by the peak discharge and runoff volume computed from hydrology component.
- Istanbulluoglu E., Tarboton D., Pack R., 2003. A sediment transport model for incision of gullies on steep topography. Water Resources Research Vol. 39, No. 4. This paper describes several equations regarding sediment capacity of eroding gullies.
- Sidorchuk A., Dynamic and static models of gully erosion. This paper explains dynamic model to predict rapid chances of gully morphology and static model to calculate final morphometric parameters. Equation of mass conservation and deformation is used.
- Vandekerckhove, Poesen J., Wijdenes D., Figueiredo T., 1998. Topographical thresholds for ephemeral gully initiation in intensively cultivated areas of the Mediterranean. Catena 33. 271-292 and Desmet P, Poesen J., Govers G., Vandaele K., 1999. Importance of slope gradient and contributing area for optimal prediction of the initiation and trajectory of ephemeral gullies. Catena 37. 377-392. Both these paper considered topographical parameters such as local slope (S) and drainage-basin area (A) to predict the location of ephemeral gully initiation.

Method I will adopt for modelling
- I'll start my project with some hypothetical source area which i'll create using raster class.
- The second step would be to use any of the erosion equation that i am able to code in python.
