Convergent margins
From GeoClasses
Where plates collide they create mountains, but the elevation and width of the mountain ranges depend on what type of collision is occurring.
Continent-continent collision. The Indian subcontinent collides with Eurasia. From: NASA Visible Earth
- Continental-continental crust collisions create huge mountain ranges like the Himalayas.
- Continent-oceanic crust collisions create mountain ranges like the Andes, and offshore trenches.
- Oceanic-oceanic crust collisions create island arcs and oceanic trenches.
