Sources of public domain images
By definition anything that does not explicitly say it is in the public domain is copyrighted, and you are only permited to use images that are in the public domain or which specifically allow educational/non-commercial use. Most sites will have a link on their main page that says "Terms of use" or "Copyright information" for example that tells you what you need to do.
Good sources:
- US government: Most images from US government sites are in the public domain by definition (you will still need to cite the website from which the images came.)
- If you do google searches then add terms like usgs, noaa or nasa to your search.
- Wikipedia: Most wikipedia images are public domain, but you need to click the image itself, which will then tell you what the terms of use are.
