Groundwater model - 2d, transient - Instructions

Transient, 2d model of groundwater flow.

• All boundaries are set as CONSTANT HEAD.
• Confined and unconfined aquifer options.
• Uses macros so Excel security must be set to "Medium".

Model/software

• Media:Model wells 06b.xls : MS Excel model that uses macros.
  • Media:Well function.xls : Graph of Theis curve that can be used determining K and S_s from model output.

Instructions

Enable macros not already enabled.

• PC (pre-Excel 2007): Tools -> Macros -> Security (Set to "Medium" (recommended) or "Low")

Boundaries

HEAD

1. Set the appropriate cells in the "bc_type" sheet to "HEAD".
2. Set the equivalent cells in the "bc_value" to the required head value.
   • Media:Model wells 06c.xls: File set up with head induced hydraulic gradient and a well in the center of the model.

FLUX

• The model currently does ONLY NO FLOW BOUNDARIES.
  • Set the appropriate cells in the "bc_type" sheet to "FLUX".
